On behalf of European Meeting Centre – Nowy Staw Foundation and partners We would like to invite you to participate in oxford-style debate, during which participants will be looking for arguments to support or refute the following thesis: "Brexit will impoverish the European Union's internal cohesion and its position on the international arena."

Wednesday, 29 March 2017 will probably go down in history as the official date of Brexit’s beginning. Prime Minister Theresa May launched Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, just over 9 months after the British decided in a referendum to leave the European Union. In our debate we want to reflect on how this will affect the future of the European Union.

The Debate is a part of „BeTheChange!” Youth Exchange project, implemented under the Erasmus+ programme KA1, Youth Mobility, in cooperation with Europe Direct Information Centre in Lublin and the Faculty of Political Science, Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin.

Participants of our debate are the young people, attendee of “BeTheChange!” project- from Poland, France, Lithuania, Romania, Italy, and foreign students from Faculty of Political Science at UMCS.

Debate participants will discuss the issues such as:

  • Will Brexit stop integration within the European Union?
  • Will it weaken position on the international arena of the Union?
  • What are the consequences of Brexit for the European Union’s economy?

Aim of our event is to widen participants' knowledge and horizons, get to know opinion of young people from foreign countries, and to promote active citizenship through attract interest of Youth in issues related to European Union and its future.


The debate will be held on 27 April 2017
at 16:00 in the Faculty of Political Science, Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin,
Plac Litewski 3, 20-080 Lublin Room no. 115.
Debate will be lead in English.
