7.07.2014 r., Lublin Visit of Members of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag RODM Lublin

The deputies of the State Parliament of North Rhine Westphalia, decided to visit Lublin, on the way to Ukraine. Due to the request of the German Embassy in Warsaw Regional Centre for International Debates in Lublin, together with the Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lublin, became involved in organization of that visit.

Parliamentarians from Germany, belonging to the Poland - North Rhine Westphalia parliamentary group, first visited the Marshal's Office in Lublin. During the meeting they had a chance to listen and ask questions to Mr Sławomir Sosnowski Marshall of Lubelskie Region, Ms Małgorzata Błasik-Osik Head of the Department for Regional Cooperation and the Foreign Affairs of the Marshals Office and Barbara Sokolnicka and Aleksander Czechowski from The Network of Investors and Exporters’ Service Centres (COIE).  During the meeting, Marshal emphasized the similarities between regions (border location, a major share of agriculture in the functioning of the regions, etc.).

In issues related to Ukraine Marshal assured the guests that despite the current difficult situation in the east of the country, cooperation with Ukraine will be continuous.  Much of the meeting was dedicated to the energy sector, including shale gas in the Lublin region and the construction of a new coal mine in Chełm. At the end of the meeting the representatives of The Network of Investors and Exporters’ Service Centres (COIE) presented the most important economic assets of the region, which include the international airport, armed areas in the economic zones, newly built roads and railways. Parliamentarians have a lot of questions to the host of the meeting, concerning, development of broadband internet, facilities for business or farm structure in our province.

Guests from Germany have also visited the Deputy Mayor for City Management Grzegorz Siemiński.  Deputy Mayor drew attention to the long-term cooperation with partner cities like Muenster. Later in the meeting the President talked about the changes that have taken place in Lublin thanks to European funds and the key investments such as the development of sports infrastructure in our city.

Another element of the visit was a meeting with representatives of the Regional Centre for International Debates in Lublin, and European Meeting Centre - Nowy Staw Foundation. The guests asked in detail about the activities of these entities,  gaining funds for their activities, and networking opportunities. Foreign visitors also had a chance to meet with representatives of Civic Association Lublin-Muenster, Ms Marta Jędrych and Mr Wieńczysław Nemirowski.

After completing a series of meetings Members of parliament visited the most interesting tourist sights of Lublin, including Lublin Castle, Old Town, Crown Court, the Dominican Basilica and Lublin's Cathedral.
