14-20.10.2012 Nasutów, Warszawa Leadership and research in workers organizations European Meeting Centre Nowy Staw Foundation

Between 14-20 October we organized a training course for trade unionists from Poland, Lithuania and Romania. The topic of the course was leadership and research in workers organizations.

The programme of the training contained 3 main themes: management, research and leadership.

The issues discussed in the field of management were following: basis of management, models of management, how to manage a trade union as well as the role of trade union in different management models.
The second part of the training was devoted to research in trade unions` activities. Here the topics were such as: methods of social research, interpretation of research results and designing of social research in trade unions.
Last two days were devoted to the theme of leadership. Discussed were following issues: manager and leader - an introduction to being a leader of a trade union, characteristics of a good leader of a trade union, how I am (I can be) as a leader, the tasks of a leader at different levels of organization of trade unions, motivation and promotion of leaders as well as the Jesuit leadership model.

27 trade unionists from NSZZ „Solidarność” and trade unions from Lithuania and Romania took part in the training.
The course lasted 5 days long; it was a time of a very intensive learning and exchange of experiences; during the classes the theory was mixed with practical exercises.

This course was the first of the cycle of training course for trade unionists. Next courses will take place in Vilnius and Cluj-Napoca.
