5-13.09.2008 The Treaty of Lisbon and not only Community Media Centre

Most residents of Europe want real results, rather than abstract documents. Treaty of Lisbon does not correspond to today's needs and challenges. - No, it the old treaty documents do not correspond to reality and that’s why we do need a document from Lisbon in order to prepare he European Union to the role of global player. Europe has already brought measurable benefits to its citizens. Now it is needed to create a political framework for Europe to face new challenges.

These and other arguments were said by young Europeans debating in Nowy Sacz on the need to accept reform treaty by all members of the European Union.

Participants in the debate were the leaders of political parties from Belgium and Romania and representatives of the civic organizations from Bulgaria and the United Kingdom. Dries Holvoet from Belgium argued against the Lisbon Treaty, saying that it is a document prepared by the elite and not by the society. Then Mathew Davies from Great Britain used argument for such as in the treaty is a number of assumptions, which have as a goal to bring Europe closer to its citizens.

Of course, the most important reason why the treaty was rejected was that this is a very complicated document. But in the treaty is a number of assumptions, which have the objective to bring Europe closer to ordinary citizen. And it was taken into account. All arguments against the treaty is just simply protectionism, which is not understandable - said during the debate For - Against Methew Davies.

The whole debate was at the same time filming by an international team NGOTV, which have been preparing to media service Economic Forum of Young Leaders.

Debate For - Against on the reform treaty was one of many activities held during the seminar “Let's debate” which was held on 05-13 September in Nowy Sacz. Furthermore, there was a meeting with the rector of the Caucasian University from Tbilisi - Kakha Shengelia and with representative of were EICEE Andrew Doran on the current situation in Georgia.

Participants in the seminar were also discussing about political education in Europe and were preparing to the media service (NGOTV team) of the Economic Forum of Young Leaders in Nowy Sacz.
